Very sad. Splitt was one of the most underrated pitchers of his day. How tough was he? In the deciding game of the 1977 ALCS, Billy Martin didn't start Mr. October because he knew Reggie had no chance against him. Splitt pitched more than well enough to win that night and I am glad he was the starter the night KC won it's first pennant. As important a person to the Royals organization and anyone not wearing #5, IMO. RIP, Splitt.

Thank you #34always carried himself with dignity and class. I got to meet him in 1979 at Kauffman. With those glasses he reminded me of someone's insurance saleman, but his competitive fire on the mound made him great fun to watch. All the prayers of all Royals fans everywhere are wi him and his family. I personally hope he makes it back into the booth as soon as he can. Thanks #34 for all the great memories and God Bless!

Denkinger?s last game (according to Retrosheet) was also in KC. It be interesting to hear Denkinger?s thoughts on that 1st game in?69. He?s from Iowa, so it must have been neat to work you first game in the city relatively close to your hometown. Don also worked the 1980 World Series, getting an earful from Jim Frey after Dickie Noles dusted Brett in game four.

Hello Mr. Nelson & Royals Hall of Fame -

I thoroughly enjoy the blog, thanks for the work you do on it.

As a Monarchs history buff and Royals fan, I always love the annual Salute to the Negro Leagues game, particularly seeing the Royals wear Monarchs throwback uniforms. I'm attempting to chronicle these games on my blog: http://kcbbh.blogspot.com/

Would you be interested in helping me out with a little history on these games? I have a partial list of the games, but if you could provide a more complete list, that would be great. Also, if you'd be willing to share any images from these games, that would be greatly appreciated.

Here's my partial list of games:
6-13-98
6-26-99
6-?-00
7-14-01
6-29-03
6-13-04
7-10-05
?-?-06
7-1-07
6-28-08
5-30-09

Thanks so much and cheers,
Aaron

Nice Pokey reference with the shot of Ankiel taking on the wall. I vaguely recall seeing video once of Tom?s crash into the left field wall in 1976 vs. the White Sox. Retrosheet mentions that he left the game with ?multiple fractures?. It was some crash. Hard to believe it took until 1978 to add padding to the outfield walls.
